Homless Cats NYC?

There are two homeless cats in my neigborhood which i nurture almost every day, the piece is with winter coming and adjectives Iam worry they wont trade name it, I tried calling shelters but they have this 72 hours things where on earth they either put them to sleep or put them up for adoption, depending on the strength of the cat, I would have taken them home beside me a l ong time ago unfortunately am allergic to cats, can anyone please suggest anything? I would can`t stand to see these innocent cats die due to cold weather : (

A respectful, painless release is NOT the worst thing that can crop up to a cat. Dying from exposure or disease can be painfully prolonged and much crueler for the cat.
