What is wrong with my cat's swollen leg?
He is an indoor/outdoor cat, and yesterday he came home with his left leg all swollen and acting totally spooked. I am assuming that he got stung by something. He is asleep right now. What should I do? I am kind of broke, so I am trying to avoid the vet, but I would make it if I had to.

take him to the vet !!
His leg isn't swollen, you're mistaking it for another appendage.
LOOK AGAIN.

Contact vet doctor.Or you try to get cured by yourself.
Look under the fur and see if there is any blood if there is it is possible a bite by something gog take to the vet just in case it get infected and it would have to lose its leg
Just keep your eye on him for a while, and if it gets worse, you may just have to get him to a vet. It could be an abscess, in which case I think they burst and he could have a nasty sore in the days to follow. Depending on how big the abscess is, you may be able to buy some antiseptic powder and you could apply it to the sore and wrap his leg. Good luck.
could be a million things from strained or torn muscles to an infection... could have been bitten by another animal, unlikely that a sting made his entire leg swell. there could be something in his leg - did you take a look???
have a good look, see if there are any marks.keep him inside and quiet so you can observe him.
wait til morning, if its still swollen take it to the vet.

you would need to determine the cause of the swelling, is the swelling around a joint possibly a sprain from jumping-etc, Do any of the bones feel broken, if so definitely go to the vet Is it not too sensitive around the swelling it will probably not be that serious. Are the eyes still very responsive to light and sound. Way it up on those points as to take it to the vet, broken bone, not very responsive, joint makes noise when you bend it, Damo
For starters, Never let your cat outside if you value it.
Second, if you really cant provide basic medical services for it, consider giving it to someone that can.
For now looks like the cat has to suffer and take its chances since you are incapable of protecting it or caring for it!
Sorry to be so brutal, but I have no sympathy for people who abuse animals!
At least phone a vet and ask for advice, if you have a pet you should be prepared to care for him, Check again and make sure and see if there is a bite, press on it a little to see if it is painful. He could of just hurt it against something, If it doesn't seem to get any better then you must take him to a vet, some bites could be poisonous, don't wait too long or it may be to late.
If your child had a swollen foot would you try to avoid a Dr.? You have to take care of your cat! Maybe the Vet. will let you make payments! You should do what ever you can to help your cat.
You have to.
Don't avoif the vet, but do give him a call first, and see if there is any way to check the severity. A cat hides it's pain wonderfully, that makes it harder to tell something is wrong.
I dont think that you can cure it by yourself since you dont know what the source of the swelling is...please keep your cat indoors so you can monitor what happens to it from now on and unfortunately you will have to take a visit to the vet dont let your kittty suffer
