Milk for cats?
Well everybody says they can't break down the lactose, but ;
[I put this as one of my answers, but I want to know more info on my question lol]
. My mom lived in Europe as a little girl and she gave her outdoor cats milk not water.
Nothing happened to them, they were tolerant of Cow's milk.
Is it different for cats in different areas or maybe the cows produce better milk??
Answers:
They were outdoor cats and obviously had a water source somewhere.
I saw your answer to the other question. As I answered that same question, animals who grow to adulthood having milk on a regular basis have an easier time digesting it. This also goes for people. Adult mammals really do not have GI tracts made for milk. Milk is meant for the young. Most people grow up drinking milk, so their GI tracts tolerate it pretty well, but some people cannot drink it.
As for cats, cow's milk has NO nutritional value at all for them. A cat who has not grown drinking milk regularly can have some serious GI upset if he is given milk.
People who have ever tried to raise an orphan kitten on cow's milk will know, kitten's cannot live on it. They MUST have kitten formula.
No!! Milk is something that is not very easy for cats or dogs to digest. Your mom's cat was outdoors, she didn't have to clean up the puke all over the house, probably! Keep a cat indoors, feed it milk all the time, and you will see the puke!
Not all cats get allergic to milk but some can get allergic so you should be careful when you give your cats milk.
Well, I suppose (in theory) if you keep on giving kittens milk before they lose their lactase (an enzyme that digests lactose/milk) then it's possible that they may end up keeping the enzyme throughout their life.
Most kittens after their weened off of momma cat will lose their lactase as they no longer need it therefore making them lactose intolerant.
BUT I still wouldn't give cats milk, but that's just me and probably everyone else.
Hope this helps!
well we give our cat a little bit of milk because it actually gives them diarea and upset stomach. just give them a little bit if you do give them any. to much milk can make them fat and sick.
i used to feed my dog and cat cow milk when they were little.Nothing happend to them they still are normal animals
Not all cats are so bad. Certain of my cats like it and I let them but they have fresh water all the time too
