What does it tight-fisted when a cat benevolently wag its tail?

When I pet my cat sometimes she gently wag her tail back and forth, or up and down, every few second, sometimes stroking my hand. I other thought it was a sign of affection, but my friend said that intended she was annoyed or irritated. So which one is it?

Answers:    It intensely often way she's annoyed.
She wants her space. But, she also loves you, so she will put up near you.
Cats are like race, they do their own things. If the cat then go to attack you it's probably irritated. If she purrs she's happy. My cat is other wagging her tail for a moment when petted but purrs too, so she's a happy catty.
yes your friend is right . its pissed rotten or wary of you ...beware
sympathetically, she loves it

if her tail is snappish here and there coarsely is when she's annoyed. watch the ears.
If she be annoyed or irritated she would move away. Cats show pleasure and affection by doing that. How many cats does your friend enjoy? You carry on and delight in petting your cat, she will love you to bits for it.
There are at least twelve different signals that cats breed with their tail.

When a cat is at rest, but readying itself for handling, it sweeps its tail erratically from side to side. It seems to lead the feline thought process of "do I or don't I?". As it become more alert or more emotionally charged, the tail swishes faster, wider and in a more regular deportment. If the cat is lying on its side, the tail will be thumping on the floor, often loudly. Though this is most normally associated with anger, it may also indicate another outstandingly charged emotion - some cats thrash their tail surrounded by ecstasy when man groomed. Violent thrashing for this reason indicates high excitement or on the horizon aggression.

Hmmm. I hold always have cats, so I like to have an idea that I understand their tongue, but I am no expert.

If your cat doesn't get up and way of walking away from you, chances are she isn't irritated or annoyed.

With my cats...a good-for-nothing swish means they are content. If it is a short time ago the tip, they are starting to get annoyed (I picture someone beating their foot with impatience, lol).
Well, when my cat "wags" her tail it usually process she's hunting something- like a fly, or she is annoyed... But when I first get her, her tail would always do that. So it's most imagined that she is annoyed. I hope that helps.
Aww! haha :)

I suppose it could be both, however, if she wag it up or down every few seconds, a bit violently, similar to one of my kitties does, it medium she is rather annoyed. It doesn't be determined anything like "I despise you and I'm going to kill you if you don't stop what you're doing", it scheme more like "mind your Ps and Qs where you touch me if not I might scratch you". Haha. I used to score my kitty on the base of her tail, and that would annoy the crap out of her.. However, some kitty find it nice.. at first atleast.

:)

Don't worry, your kitty still loves you. Just think twice so that you don't annoy her too much, because you might end up near a few scratches. I'm sure she'll forgive you no issue what though.

Good luck with your kitty :)
I regard the cat is happy. The tail is wag because the cat is relaxed.

Have fun with your cat.
My Midnight used to do that. She would wag her fairy-tale and sometimes her ears would go flat. It largely meant she loved me, but be a little annoyed and considered necessary to be left along. When I'd go off her along, she'd stay in the other room for awhile, consequently she'd come out, hop in my knees and purr.
Cats are just amazing, I love 'em.
