In Australia, can we get rabies from common animals such as cats?

I have heard on the news of a rare case when someone was bitten by a bat and got rabies. I have just been told I can get it from stray cats. Is this true in Australia?

Feral cats carry infectious diseases such as toxoplasmosis and sarcosporidiosis, which can be transmitted to native animals, domestic livestock and humans.

Rabies is not in Australia as far as we know.

if an animal has rabies, then yes, and a person is bitten by that animal, then yes, that person can get rabies.

but if you live in a country where there isn't rabies, then no, you won't get rabies from a stray cat.
