Barley straw to verbs the fish pond?

Does barley straw clean the algea within the fish pond. I've got a barley straw, didn't seem to be to have made any difference. It's be in the pond for more or less 10 days now.

Answers:    barley straw does not CLEAN the algae out of the pond. it merely STOPS new algae growing. once the straw starts to rot (after something like 6 weeks) thats when it starts to work,

algae only have a life span of roughly speaking 2 weeks, so after 6 weeks your barley straw starts to rot and releases peroxide, which stops new algae growing, so as the older stuff dies, it cant be replaced by new.

you will be looking at around 8 weeks in the past you start to see any effect im afraid.

i also hate to articulate it thought but you had added it at the wrong time of the year, count barley straw when the day hurricane lantern hours are reducing so you will get smaller number algae anyway is basically pointless, you should hold added it in spring time. but also next to the water man colder now, the straw will pinch longer to rot than it would have surrounded by the spring or summer. the effects of a single barley straw net will ending for around 12 months though as long as it is left contained by, so dont remove it, just sign out it in, and you should find that subsequent spring you wont have as much algae forming.
My friend who own tried them didn't like them and said the smell if disappeared in the pond to long. I made a external filter out of an infirm cooler,3/4 inch PVC and garden hose connected to my pond pump. I purchased filters contained by bulk and cut them down to fit the cooler and made shelves from the ones they sell within home centers with the plastic coating. they work great and simply need to be cleaned every three weeks for me within the Midwest. I hope this helps
you enjoy to give it time for the bactaria to grow.it does work,i hold being using barley straw for years surrounded by a open pond.
it doesn't really verbs the pond barley straw attracts algae and blanket weed. For a clean pond save an eye on your filter system.
