Live rock hitchhiker - Can anyone identify?

He looks kinda like a nudibranch but have a sort of hard plate on his put a bet on, it probably taks up about 1/3rd of his body. It is definately not a snail! Hes kinda grey on the body and the shell/ plate bit is sorta purpley coloured, but I reckon he can change colour. Hes in the region of 1" long.

I cant figure out how to put within a picture otherwise I would!


Answers:    This might be a type of limpet or a relative. They're related to snails and nudibranchs, but the shell is more like a cone. There's closely of variety amoung the group, and ones I've have in my reservoir have the shell covering the entire body (there are freshwater ones similar to this as well). I'll see if I can find a photo of some to post here.

Yes it sounds resembling a stomatella to me. They are great little invertabretes.
