My goldfish is breathing, but not moving. He's floating on his side unresponsively. Why?
He's breathing, because his gills are moving, still eating, because he ate this morning and just about two seconds ago, but not moving!
He's not sleeping because he's on his side, floating around near the current of the filter water. I'd have him for two years, in equal tank next to the same filter. There are no other fish contained by the tank. It's of late him.
(We change the filter's filter, marine, and clean up his container very repeatedly. So he's always be in worthy tip-top shape.)
I'm quite startled. Why is he doing this? If it's something serious, what can I do to help him?
Answers: Hi Volley grl, his sounds resembling a case of poor hose down conditions, test your ammonia & nitrite-if they read anything above zilch do a 50% partial water correction using same temperature, treated hose. Repeat as necessary.
You voice you do regular maintenance but it might be worth checking what you do near the info on the link below to see if nearby is anything you may need to revise. You might also turn your filter down a little rather to give him some nouns but do not turn it off, if you can't turn it down probably you can adjust the flow direction?
It may be a swim bladder disorder. This may have occur due to overfeeding if you think you hold then try fast him for a couple of days. If you have not be overfeeding him then you might try feed him cooked, shelled peas in moderation for a few days. These hold a mild laxative effect & if it is constipation will help alleviate it. Fat bodied, fancy types of Goldfish are markedly prone to this condition.
he's probably going to die. theres really nothing you can do for him.
