Answers: before breeding them you should become the best owner you can be. near that in mind, the 10gallon would be great. here is my suggestion for it:
manufacture the divider opaque, receive one side much smaller than the other. add the mannish to this side. in the other side win 5 or 6 female bettas. keep hold of these for a while and get to know how to meticulousness for them. what bettas do when they are happy, crestfallen, sick, mad. everything.
merely after you know how to care for them 100% should you start considering breeding. do TONS of research, I suggest bettatalk.com and logically I'd be glad to help next to anything I can so feel free to email me :)
bettas occur to be y passion (well them and goldfish) and I enjoy waaay too many stories to put here but one of my favs be a male and a deformed womanly that became friends and refuse to be in separate tank (not a good thought unless mating, dangerous) until she get sick for the last time from her defect, he didn't eat for a week after she died :(
Betta's are an real wonder to raise. We didn't use the divided container set up, so I can't really advise in the order of that. We used individual units, and no filtration or marine movement at all contained by the males unit while he be nesting, breeding, and raising the fry. To breed them the mannish will make a 'nest' of bubbles lying on the water. Until he have his nest, and is ready for a mate, don't introduce a feminine as he will fight her if he isn't primed to breed. You must watch them to engineer sure he is interested in her, but not one aggressive. He builds the nest, and you introduce the female. If he is not aggressive to her, you move them and just keep hold of a close check for any signs of attack. If he is ready to breed he will 'woo' her by chasing and blocking her until he maneuvers her underneath the nest and they will circle each other until she releases eggs, at which time he will release sperm. The mannish will then take into custody the eggs in him mouth, and spit them up into the bubble nest. After they are finished mate (could be one batch of eggs, up to two or three times) he will start human being aggressive to her and you must remove her without disturbing the bubbles. It is amazing to see the male fastidiousness for the eggs when we all presume of them as fighters. He will care for them , making sure they stay contained by the nest. If one starts to fall, he'll get hold of it up, and put it back contained by the nest. After the fry hatch (in about 2 or 3 days if dad does his job) he will still keeping for them until they are able to swim alone. At this point they stipulation to be removed (or he can be put in another unit). Then comes the concrete parts :o)

if u want to have a freshwater cistern that is as scintillating as a salwater tank, you should procure a 29 gallon or larger and make it into a cichild container, african cichlids have more color and some don't win very significant or go next to the South American breeds, they are aggresive but are worth the time and money,
Jack Dempseys, Dovi, Jaguar,Green Terrors and Pecock Bass cichlids are the more larger and agressive species but have the best colors
but if Convicts are more glibly to breed and get a credible size of 5 to 6 inches
