52-Gallon Freshwater Tank - NEWBIE?

Hi all,

I'm a severely newbie person within the midst of setting up a freshwater tank - I own a 52Gallon aquarium and have already started setting up the container. I have going on for one to one and one-half inches worth of bright yellow Marina brand gravel, eight plastic aquarium ornaments (little cutsie figurines, a "sunken ship" and bridge for the fish to fur, etc) and that's it for the decor. I'm working towards plants, etc but I'm trying to figure out if it's best to capture plastic or real.

I bought this cistern second-hand and received a filter (along beside 3 additional replacements), the lid (which come with lights that work well) and a blue stick near a bunch of pin-sized holes punched in it and a 'spout' on the extremity - I know this is for air, but I don't know if this is adjectives I need or if I requirement to invest in an secondary piece for it. Would it be best to use something like this or should I a moment ago invest in existing plants for the tank? What charitable of care go into the real plants? Next steps? Thx.

Answers:    i wondered matching thing when i get my aquarium but i went the bubble route, it keep the tank full of oxygen. TRUE plants look nice and the fish also feed rotten them, they also keep oxygen contained by the water, some fish even use them to breed on but they do alike with artificial plants. artificial plants are easier to verbs and dont require any care but if you want the upper air hose to work your going to need an nouns pump. some come silent some can be noisy. i prefer the heavens pump because its nice looking at the bubbles and what they do to the fish. fish love swimming through bubbles and they keep your container cleaner as it moves water and bubbles through the rocks and towards the filter to be cleaned, also you may necessitate two filters if the filter you enjoy is to small.

when you bring the fish home don't put them in the river immediately permit them bob in in attendance bags contained by the aquarium to let the dampen reach warmth so they aren't shocked in a sudden heat change within water. another entity that is suitable for fish is rock salt that you can go and get at your pet store it not salt river, you add a bit to the tank to also relief with the oxygen contained by your tank and the fish's ably being. some fish can acquire sick in a unknown tank or if clean fish are added make sure the wet is a good heat for the type of fish you are putting in the reservoir its not a good conception to mix warm wet fish with cold dampen fish like goldfish. a bottle of ick away should be handy and attention taken when using it. if you suspect your fish to have gotten ick remove the filter throw away the videotape and thoroughly wash the filter. throw away the atmosphere spout with adjectives the holes in it. put the fish contained by another tank and treat the fish near the proper amount of medicine per gallon most of the medicine are chemicals and need to be handle with support. clean out the frail tank thoroughly and when the fish hold been heal you may put them back surrounded by their old habitat using equal care as you did when you brought them home. do not put any of the out-of-date water final in the spanking new tank or any of the medicated river in the foreign tank.
We've have lots of aquariums over the years. What you have should be satisfactory to get started. Depending on the size of the filter, you might want 2 of them. Our 50 gallon tank uses 2 filter. But if it worked well for the human being who owned it before, you should be OK. The lone other thing you might requirement would be a heater. It will depend on what type of fish you grasp. Some tropical fish need radiator water than what you will enjoy without a space heater. Check with the fish "expert" at the store when you return with the fish. Plants.we've never had concrete plants. I've been told that they are a torment to take caution of, but don't know.
