look at the anal fin. females it is a fan, on males it is pointed.. call the gonopuidum (sp?) and generally, females are larger than males.
coloration and finnage are unpromising ways of sexing.
Male guppies have a gonopodium - roughly an extension of the anal fin. They also usually have more flamboyant tails.
