Has anyone ever hear of a Budha Cod Free?
Answers: I beleive that hte character meant buttekoferi as within Oreochromis (tilapia) buttikoferi
I can't say I've ever hear of a fish with this term. I'm assuming you're spelling it as it sounds, so if this looked at all loach-like, the genus heading might be Botia. Going on that assumption, the species closest to that pronunciation would be Botia kubotai, but the fish doesn't fit the description you gave: http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/profil...
Still, this might be something in that general group.
There's also a Beaufortia kweichowensis, but again, this doesn't fit the description: http://www.israquarium.co.il/FishPhoto/B... , http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/profil...
From your description, it sounds almost close to a plecostomous: http://www.pauluk.8k.com/Imagenes/plecos... - there's a lot of miscellany in the size and coloration of the plecos.
If the store still exists, you might try contacting them to see if they remember what type of fish this be (if you could get the spelling of the given name, even, this would let you look up info on it).
ADDITION: I be thinking common signature or genus, but the Tilapia butterkofferi mentioned above would be a possibility - at least it have black stripes: http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_...
