New fish tank-Do I necessitate to turn rotten the oil lamp at dark?

I received a new fish reservoir for christmas, built in filter and seperate reservoir light within the cover. I have the double fin goldfish near the bulging eyes. I'm wondering if the light should be turned bad at night or if the fish want it on 24/7.
