We have a Spotted Gar surrounded by our fish tank and he's too aggressive so we hold to get rid of him. We made a post on a website to get rid of him and someone told us it's illegal to enjoy them here in California. We bought him at a pet store here and we see them surrounded by pet stores all the time. It doesn't craft sense. Does anyone happen to know if it's true or not? Thank You.
Answers: Yep, it's true. Spotted gars (and oodles other gars) are illegal within California. They're illegal within a lot of states. It's because they're an invasive fish. If they terminated up in a local pond they'd multiply and take over - and kill in cold blood off the local fish in the process. They trade them in the fish stores even though it's private.
