Answers: Unfortunately, most of the information/suggestions you enjoy gotten thus far are not all together correct. First past its sell-by date, You CAN put a male betta surrounded by a tank near OTHER fish (not another betta), and they can live in musical tones. It’s a misconception that this cannot happen. Do some research and you will see. Second, some of the fish that Linda mentioned can be on the aggressive side, so be wary. Third, theseeker is right (for the most part) for how he is calculating the amount of fish that your tank can hold, but not everyone agrees next to this method, so it is more of a "everyone has their own opinion" type of entity. IF you wanted to take any other fish, which I'm neither agreeing with or disagreeing near, I would most definately stay with something to be precise going to stay small, maybe a molly, guppy, along that file. Then you have to hold in mind whether they are cheery singly or in a schooling group. These are things better past its sell-by date left to research on your own on the computer, or buy a book, etc. No one can supply you the "right" answer because everyone's definitions of right and wrong come and go. there are a huge varity of colorful tetras and multi colored gold fish you can choose from approaching the neon tetra or the fan tail gold ingots fish these fish are also very adjectives at your local pet store
do NOT as Dr. dope said, add goldfish to a tropical aquarium. They are not compatible. Not to mention a 20 gallon reservoir is the minimum size you need for a single goldfish, it is method too small for a goldfish and the other fish you have, even if they like the same warmth. I would say you enjoy enough fish for the reservoir you have. Add up the total length of all your fish surrounded by inches when they will be full grown (ie their maximum lenght) and if that number is over 20, your tank is over populated. If that number is below 20 (remember, their total maximum length, not their current length) you can safely donate fish until the total length is 20 or just underneath.
lil m is definently WRONG, if you get a betta, it will kill in cold blood all of your fish. Dr. dope is a dope! goldfish can kill in cold blood you fish too, because of the great amount of amonia that they give sour!

If it is a Siamese algae eater later you need to consider getting rid of that fish. As it grows it will capture more and more aggressive. Otherwise you might consider Dwarf Gouramis. They are very fine fish and very quiet. Check out the link I posted below to find out more just about them. I also suggest you get 2 more danios.
