WOW,theres some good answers ,but heres my 2cents,lol.We get lucky,our Morgan was just $250,the Quarter was $400,both are elder but still hit the trail and are in great shape.One little trick we cultured the hard channel was to look at what type of fencing is around the pasture,where on earth we bought ours he owners had 6ft illustrious , inch metal tubing cemented into the ground.The Morgan be a "Huodini",that fence should enjoy been an indicator but we wasn't thinking something like that it the time.( I followed advice to one of my question on here and hopefully that is a settled issue).

Why does every body on here muse $2000 is going to get a angelic horse. Where is every body from I want to live where you guys do!! Are you looking for some piece broke because were im from you wont take a broke horse for that cheap unless they are around 20 yrs old. A right broke horse here is around 3000-5000 and thats just green broke.
You'll be alright near $2'000 if you play it smart. Don't buy a cheap horse. If the horse is really cheap(around $500) there is something wrong beside it. It may be that it isn't trained, it's green broke, has cancer, is skittish, etc...and unless your looking for an untrained horse to train yourself, don't turn for a cheapo. If your buying a horse, wether your a horse person or not I would support taking an experieced person along. They may know or see something you don't and if zilch else they can watch the horse from the ground when your riding it to see how it moves. Don't turn for the pretty horse either. If you find a pretty one later that's terrific, but the main point you should be looking for is health and temperment. A moral way to find a agreement on a horse is to find some one that just can't preserve their horse anymore, because they're too old, moving away etc... You can ask around the horse community, similar to at tack stores, boarding stable, and the like, because population there are friends near other horse people and are more probable to know about these deal. If you find the perfect horse and suggest you want to buy him/her, then one item you should remember is that you shouldn't make a purchase, even if it's a friend unless they agree to you take the animal home for a week or so long trial run. You'll probably enjoy to leave a down transmittal, but you should take it home ride it surrounded by different situations and you should definately get it checked out by your vet surrounded by that time. This time also shows and problems, behavioral or medical that could have be covered by the owner drugging the horse( a reason you should never shift to a livestock sale for one). Alright, to sum up.

I'm from the central ozarks and know right presently of a well trained, meek, 7 year old horse that someone desires $900 for (sorry folks but if my wife wants her she is gone). $2000 is plenty for most breeds, merely be patient. The breed of this horse is Fox trotters as are most horses here but that is to say ok. They are among the best trail horses around and can rope, cut and jump as okay.

You have to imagine about what you want. I am a dressage rider. Dressage PROSPECTS turn for $3,500+ here. A higher-level dressage horse can be around $40k-$60k+
You can usually get off-the-track horses for cheaper. Or rescues. Like I said, it adjectives depends on what is in your nouns.
