Horse Conditioning.?
Okay me and my horse are conditioning to get arranged for show season. We always do contained by the winter. What are some exersices (riding and non riding) that can get us set for show season in the Spring and Fall. We are looking to do dressage and jump. Maybe a little eventing subsequent Fall. Please any conditioning ideas you own share!
Answers: Do lots of trotting, extended and collected. It builds muscle.
Whenever I can I trot and lope up a hill that's on the trails at my barn. Only do this on firm, risk-free, dry ground. That really builds muscle. My horse lost weight and gain muscle after a summer of doing that about twice a month. I would trot him up a couple times, later walk around the rest of the trails next come back and lope him up a couple times. (Lope is canter, sorry if you be confused...I ride Western.)
If your planning on doing eventing, trot and *canter* (I caught myself =] ) a lot on the trails.
My friend be conditioning her horse for barrel race after he had an injury to his leg, she trotted him for a partially mile, then walk a little, and loped pay for. (She built up to the mile). Pretty soon he could trot the whole mile, and immediately he can lope the whole mile.
Lounge him alot. Then long trot. Trotting builds interweave, cantering builds muscle remember that. Then if at all possible breeze him out (blow him out) once a month, like lope him around the arena both ways or trot.
