I have a Tennessee Walking horse, and am still working on him beside a snaffle bit. After that I'm going to go to one designed for gaited horses. However, I use my horse for hunting too, and don't hold him do the running walk while we are contained by the mountains. Plus we have friends who close to to come over to ride horse, and I don't want to have them use that bit on my horse because I don't want them to be to sturdy handed on him and hurt him. Can I use two seperate bits on him, or would it verbs him. I know with my other horse when I switched him from the snaffle to the wester bit for working cows he would conduct yourself up for a little till he get used to it
Answers: I believe that if you switched often adequate, he would be used to it, though getting him to use his gait in a snaffle would be preferable, but difficult. The most meaningful thing is to remember that the bit should fit the horses mouth, and it is best to control a horse beside legs not reigns.
i think that you will be o.k useing 2 bits but if he act funny just use on bit and transmit your friends to be careful.
