I've be thinking give or take a few getting an Anole Lizard?
I've been thinking just about getting an Anole Lizard and I cant find a good source roughly food/shelter/habits. Can anyone tell me how much they drink and the equiptment needed for the cage?
Answers: If you're lately housing one, he will do fine in a 10gallon TALL cistern. Of course, bigger is always better. A twosome will do okay in a 20gal.
They soak up climbling & a taller terrarium is preferred over length. You NEED to have plenty of branches and foliage.
They do require roast, but it must be kept between 75-80 degrees f. And bask temps should be betweeb 86-90.
At night, the temp should not budge below 65 degrees f.
For lighting, they entail fluorescent UVB bulbs. You can also use a heating wipe under the container on the warmer side of the terrarium.
The types of substrate Anoles prefer is peat moss, mulch, yap mulch, or coconut fiber.
They require humidity, and the tank desires to be misted at least twice a daytime. The humidity should range from 60-70%.
They will chomp through crickets, mealworms, wax worms, cockroaches, fruit flies and other small insects. All feeder insects should be properly gut-loaded prior to feeding. Offering assorted different insects will offer the best diet for the anole since different insects enjoy different nutritional values.
Care should be used to not overfeed anoles and they should only be offered single as much food as they can eat contained by one sitting.
They are a bit more "complex" reptile to keep, and are complex maitenence than a Leopard Gecko, or Bearded dragon.
Hope you find what you're looking for.
