Answers: YESS!! they love it, its pure for them because in the frantic they clean themselves within sand. it does wonders for their fur. make sure its chinchilla SAND AND NOT DUST. dust is too fine and cand hurt them. pinch a plastic bin like a rubbermade one next to a floor space thats atleast 1 foot by2 foot and as deep as it can be to keep hold of things clean. pour contained by 3-4 inches of chinchilla sand and let ur hamster play surrounded by it for 20 minutes atleast 3 times a week. you can get it from petsmart, pet appeal, petco ect.

I have have many hamsters and I've never used chinchilla sand. I other just used sawdust, if you put plenty of it within the cage, they'll love digging and burying surrounded by it. You should be able to buy sawdust from any run of the mill pet shop. I think it's probably freshly as good as chinchilla sand.
